Sure hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I managed to run at least twice last week, walk once, and lift once. I figured I wouldn’t get my lifts in and I was ok with that. The walk was a last minute thing that ended up being fun with my hubby, mom, and baby boy. We walked a little over 4 miles and really tested out the stroller. My mom and I ended up carrying the stroller over the gravel because my son didn’t appreciate it. He was trying to sleep and he needed it. The two days prior were exhausting with lots of socializing. He very rarely got to be on the ground to stretch out (the kid is in the 99th percentile for height). He needed his sleep. Don’t get me wrong he did great for being 2 months old and being passed around.
Today I got my run in and only my run. I ended up being pretty busy. I had to get all of our stuff picked up and in the laundry, since we are going on a mini vacation this weekend. Plus I had to take my little guy to the doctor for his 2 month check up. Shots were in the works for him sadly. Amazingly enough, I didn’t cry but I was pretty darn close. Once I got back I ate my lunch and then played with my baby boy. He ended up getting pretty fussy (very out of the ordinary for him), so I fixed him right up. Food is the way to anyone’s heart. Eventually the poor kid fell asleep.
Then I got to get my run in. I moved on to the next week, even though I only did two runs last week. I could feel it this time for my run. My intervals were running two minutes and walking one. It was definitely noticeable that I didn’t run late last week. Hopefully on Wednesday it’ll be a little easier. But as soon as I was finished I had to shower, so I could go meet the lady who is going to watch my baby boy. It ended up being quite the busy Monday.
Today for the first time in forever, it seems, I got to walk. I mean like a set time on a treadmill that was dedicated towards walking. It was refreshing. Working out has always been my stress reliever and a that makes me feel good. Yes, I realize it’s the endorphins that get released, but it still always makes me happy. My walk was only 30 minutes at a 3.5 mile per hour pace. It isn’t crazy fast, but I didn’t want to push it. Plus since my doctor told me to ease back into, I figured I better listen. I think on Wednesday I’ll try to go slightly faster depending on how I’m feeling tomorrow. Even after my cool down (not that I felt like I got my heart rate up) was over, I felt like I could keep going for another 30 minutes. I’m sure if I did, I wouldn’t be able to walk tomorrow. It was great to get back to working out, even if it is not even close to where I was before getting pregnant.
So… Big news for those of you who don’t know. I expecting a little one in September! My husband and I are so excited. It happened a like earlier than planned, but everything always happens in God’s time. I truly believe that and it seems to be more and more true each day. Plus my husband and I moved back to my home state of Iowa. Words can’t describe just how happy I am for that. I’m a firm believer in family, and I’ve missed mine a great deal. Nothings the same unless family is nearby. Anyways we are stoked about having a baby.
I’ve always been adamant about working out and being healthy. Well, that first trimester just about wiped me out. I was sleeping all the time and barely got dinner on the table half the time. Obviously I was a major slacker that first trimester but oh well. I figured if my body wants sleep that bad then I should give it sleep.
However, second trimester changed that. The first few weeks of the second trimester I just walked 4 miles. I wasn’t always super consistent because of the packing and everything else that need to get done. I did manage to go at least 3 times a week. I figured that is more then most people who aren’t even pregnant.
My pup takes attractive pictures lol
But today that changed. I figured I’ve got access to a home gym that doesn’t cost me anything, better use it. So today was leg day. Now being pregnant, I obviously have to be a little more cautious of what I’m doing. I did not push it to the extent I felt like death, but I did push it enough I felt like I was doing something. My legs felt like jello after, so I felt accomplished. It helped that I would go up the stairs on my rest to check on my dogs. They aren’t used to having lots of land to roam, so I would make sure they were still within line of site. It’s almost like extra toys to go up the stairs in the middle of a leg workout, but oh well. The workout includedbodyweight calf raises (might change to weighted), hip abductor and adductor, one legged barbell squats, walking dumbell lunges, seated leg curls, leg extensions, and barbell squats. My cardio consisted of walking with the dogs and washing my vehicle.
They do love each other
It felt good to be back at the weights. Just because I’m pregnant doesn’t mean I need to lose my muscle mass. It’s good for the baby and mom to be healthy, which includes working out. Plus after birth, hopefully, it’ll help to lose the baby weight.
So yesterday I ran another 5k that was about the same pace/time frame as on Tuesday. I felt pretty accomplished about that. At first I thought it wouldn’t go as well but hey I’ll take it. It was really pretty so I had to take a picture.
Today I went for my long run because I won’t have time tomorrow. It went about as well as could be expected. I was hoping for a little better but considering how long it has been, since I’ve gone 5 miles… It also got much warmer than I anticipated, so I was over dressed. However, I did use my new running belt, which has water bottles. It was helpful but sometimes I thought it made my mouth feel more dry. It could be because the water got warm or I’m over thinking it.
Anyways my run was at a 10 minute pace, which makes sense. Part of my other issue was that my legs were starting to feel it towards the end, which could be because of the heat or all the workouts from earlier or just a combo. Since I ran further I got to see more of the trail, it went my a grill. That’s just torture on so many levels. The place provided some shade over the sidewalk people ran on but still it is food on a bike trail. Another issue I had was my hips bothering me like crazy. Generally I ignore pain in my hips (I broke them freshman year of high school) but it didn’t leave. It could be because of the stair master, which works your hip flexors. On the plus side my pup managed to last the whole 5 miles, and I couldn’t tell she was worn out until the cool down walk.
After running and becoming completely exhausted, I went to the gym to work out. Yeah… Not sure what’s wrong with me. Today was back and biceps. My arms are still sore and weak from the workouts earlier in the week. Needless to say it was an interesting workout. But hey I finished and I still pushed myself.
Once I finished all that crazy working out, we had some friends come over. It’s so satisfying to just hang out and talk with people over food. Even if they can only stay just for dinner, it’s refreshing to just talk to friends about struggles in life. I’m forever thankful for all the ones I’ve made.
Just a little FYI I did workout last week but it got crazy busy for me to blog. Sorry, but I have no desire to stay up late to blog. I really need my sleep. Anyways I went to a concert that was so much fun. It was a Cole Swindell concert. I figured I’d see him before it cost an arm and a leg to see him in concert.
Over the weekend I had the chance to go ride a horse. I realize this blog makes me seem like a runner and that’s it. However, I’m an equestrian at heart. It’s just an expensive sport (worse than running, who knew) that l can’t do all the time. One reason is because my home barn is located in my home state, and I haven’t found a barn here. I haven’t tried real hard to find one because it is expensive. Anyways needless to say my legs were not crazy sore. My inner thighs were a little sore and the inside of my knee. The inside of my knee was sore because of bruising from holding on to the saddle.
Today I went for great run. I was a little nervous at first because I had taken three days off and didn’t do my long run. But it went pretty well. I’m the beginning I was feeling like I could fly and went out a little too fast for to long. My first mile felt fantastic needless to say. I barely walked and only stopped when my poor pup needed to go. She tries so hard to not stop and go but it’s cruel to make a dog run and go to the bathroom. When getting into my second mile it was a little slower but probably a little too fast still. It felt good though, however, I was starting to really feel the humidity. My skin was getting gross but I kept on going. Looking at my last mile I shake my head. It was the worse mile out of all of them. Even during my training for the half last year my third mile was the worst. But once I get past that mile I start “leveling” out and becoming consistent. One of these days I will hopefully figure it out. I know my first mile was fast because I just felt amazing but I have to learn to hold that back and be consistent.
My lifting was for chest and triceps. It was crazy intense and my arms/chest have become jello. I was trying to open my ground turkey with that easy peal, and it was a challenge. Getting plates down made my arms shake, so I think it was a good lifting day. While I’m sure I’ll feel the pain tomorrow, I’m glad I can feel the jello now. It means I did well. I almost didn’t go because I still wish my husband would join me, but I sucked it up and went
Yesterday I was a slacker and didn’t lift weights. It war gorgeous outside and I couldn’t stay in that long. I also ran outside and it was fantastic!
I haven’t run outside in ages, which also meant I wore my dog out. Let me tell you that’s a challenge to do that puppy is full of energy. Anyways my run went well, even though she pushed me quicker in the beginning than I planned. I also had all the elderly people try to talk to me as I was trying to run. Some had dogs and others didn’t. But all I’m saying is that if your dog is aggressive towards other dogs maybe muzzle it or put the yellow flag on its leash.
Today I did actually work out. It was arms and abs day. My abs hate me but mainly my arms hate me. I used the 20 pound dumbell for pretty much everything. I was nervous to take it off the rack because that’s where the guys always get their dumbells. It’s only 20 pounds and above. Anyways on another great note, I got to run outside again. My pace was more consistent this time. My pup was a little more worn out today. It was so much fun and I’ve missed it immensely. When winter really comes I’m going to be sad but happy because it means I’ll probably be married.
So today was leg day. Yay! I’m so just kidding. I also used my new garmin vivoactive for the first time. I didn’t completely use it correctly because it took me a little bit to realize how to actually start the thing. I ran for over a little half an hour and felt alright about it. I’m not sure what got over me but I didn’t feel like it was a decent run. At one point I became positive it was just my mind getting to me. But I’ve been consistent all week with working out this week. The last few weeks have been crazy so it really messed with my schedule.
Leg day, oh leg day. It went really well. I’ll be not walking tomorrow but that’s OK. A girl saw me start in on lunges and was like hey you wanna walk lunges around the track with me. She didn’t want to do it by herself. I could tell she was a straight up jock. Don’t get me wrong, I know a lot of jocks and they are amazing people. However, some are crazy shallow and focused on themselves. It was interesting to workout with someone.
I worked out yesterday and today. I promise! I just haven’t had time to blog with the crazy work schedule. Holiday hours are not any fun.
Anyways, yesterday I did intervals for twenty five minutes. Those are getting easier, which is promising. It was back day as well. However, my body building app was not cooperative and neither was the website. I was not very happy with that but after uninstalling it and reinstalling it, it has worked just fine. I just looked up my workout plan, since I knew what day I was on.
Today was chest and abs. I did not run because I had my graduate final and found studying to be more important. It went really well and I surprised myself with my increase on weights. I’m pumped with that for sure.
Tonight my fiance forced me to open my wedding present. He’s not known for patience. I’m so excited and happy with it. It’s a Garmin Vivoactive! I’ve never really wanted anything fancy like that and have always thought it was just what the crazy fitness people used. Turns out I’m one of those people now! I don’t care, it’ll make running and working out easier. It looks odd color in the photo but it’s black.
My fiance opened his as well and he got a pair of cowboy boots. I’m slowly converting him.
So I was a slacker last week for lifting. Between the crazy insane schedule of black Friday and working thanksgiving, everything went a little crazy. I did manage to get some runs in though. It really stinks when you have to work thanksgiving.
As for working out earlier this week it didn’t happen either. I only had a chance to run. It went alright all things considered. Monday I didn’t do anything because my fiance and I ended up doing errands. Managed to get our marriage license application notarized, so go us!
Today I did workout and I ran. My run went really well even though some older, larger guy with way to much cologne decided to join me. That made it a little strange and awkward but I got through. The only bad part about having someone in there with me is, I’m pretty certain they thought I was dying. I did intervals for half an hour. Generally when I go half an hour for intervals I tend to be sweating profusely and I’m breathing hard. I mean that’s part of working out and doing something but still when people can hear you, it’s awkward.
My weight lifting has increased to six days a week. I’ll be having a few double days this week. Oh well, tough life. It was back day today, which I was not to impressed with. My back is crazy sore from who knows what and then I worked it today. There was one guy who gave me judging looks the whole time I used the hyperextension. I already just got over the fear of using that.
So today I almost didn’t go workout. I really wanted to finish reorganizing my kitchen because it desperately needed done. My fiance and are so blessed with what everyone has given us for our marriage. By the way it is only 37 days away! Hazzah! I’ll probably have to rearrange again after the wedding but maybe not because I have a tiny bit of extra space. My reorganization took me about 4 hours, but now think about how small apartment kitchens are. I’m a slight neat freak.
Anyways back to my workout. Today was legs… Again. I feel like it’s all I do anymore but it’s my fault for doing a double workout in order to finish school work. My legs have not quite recovered from my last leg day so hopefully I can walk for school tomorrow. I mean I do have 3 flights of stairs to go up. I’ve also decided it does not matter how in shape you are those stairs will kill you. I mean the people not in shape it really kills and the rest of us are just like why. But overall my leg workout went well even though it hurts to just walk still…
For my cardio I did a 5k of course. It went well considering the place smelled like paint. I opened the window for that one. It got better as I kept going. I’m not sure if that means I got used to the smell or the window actually helped. It doesn’t really matter because it went away anyways
