First Run

Hey guys,

Today I got to run for the first time in forever. It was amazing! I started the couch to 5k plan, which is what I did when I first started running over five years ago. This first week I run for a minute and for a minute and a half. I start off with a five minute warm up and a five minute cool down. In total it only went for 25 minutes. I figure that is probably a good start for the beginning. It was hard to keep my running pace at only a 10 minute mile. My mind wanted to go faster, but I knew better than to push it. I was grateful at the end I didn’t because I was starting to feel it. It wasn’t so much in my legs but I could feel it in my abs. It sounds crazy, but you really do use ab muscles for running.

I also had the joy of going on my first date with my hubby, since my son was born. It was hard leaving him, even though I know my parents are amazing. Hey, I manged to go three whole hours without seeing him. Honestly, my hubby and I did pretty good about not focusing only him during our conversations. He only came up in the beginning, middle,  and end…. No but seriously, we did good about keeping it short when we did. I was ready to see my baby boy by the end of the three hours. Now he’s my snuggle bug as he falls asleep. It was fun to be out with my hubby for the evening. He even got me a new purse and wallet. I do feel kinda bad because he wanted ice cream and we didn’t get any. But I missed my baby boy.

Really thought about buying this for him. It is too big right now.

Christmas Eve Workout

Hey yall, 

Today I managed to get a workout in even though it’s Christmas Eve. I ran for an hour, which everyone has made fun of me for. It was crazy because it felt easy and I haven’t run that far in ages. I’m sure it helped my family has a nice treadmill. My mom and I also watched a Christmas movie during my run. I had lots of distractions from different things during my run. I also had a fan constantly blowing on me, so I never got crazy hot. Plus my mom gave me Batman socks last night, and that might have something to do with it. Not in the sense that I showed all my family and said “I’m Batman,” but the fact they were athletic socks the had compression. I’m sure it helped that I gave myself false confidence saying I’m Batman but I’m sure the real reason was because they were compression socks. My run still consisted off me running three minutes and then walking one. This definitely worried me some because I was going for an hour and it’s  been a while since I had to go that long. Anyways my run felt awesome 

I also worked out my biceps and triceps. My arms felt the pain early on because I could use the proper dumbbells. My biceps are already sore and I’ve yet to get them sore the same day. I’m feeling pretty good about that. Plus for my triceps my parents home has a triceps rope pull down that I could use. I’ve never been more excited for a machine I could use. It was fun working out with my mom because she always cheers me on. It’s funny, which sometimes makes it hard to lift. However, it can be needed to have that little extra cheering. 

We also went over to my grandfather’s house to celebrate Christmas. It was super meaningful in more than one way. I enjoy time with family always. 

On a Mission 5k Race

Hey yall! Hope yall had a great week. 

Yesterday I had the joy of being able to see my hubby. I didn’t workout, since he had the day off. What started out as a typical Walmart run ended up being a little more exciting. Originally we went in there for a few items he needed to make cookies. As usual we got distracted and picked up a few other items we needed. Where it gets a little tricky is that somehow we ended up next to the area with all the Christmas decorations and things. I was going to keep on walking by, except my husband started looking. So we ended up buying a few Christmas decorations. His reasoning for getting them seemed like a good one, at least to me. Most of our Christmas items are hand-me-downs. Don’t get me wrong I love those because of the sentiment and history that goes along with them. However, it is nice to have things that have only belonged to my hubby and me. It ended up with me getting him to get on board with putting the tree up. 

I wanted to get both my dogs but he was the only cooperating to get a treat.

Today was race day! In case you couldn’t tell based off the title. However, I was not prepared that great for the race. Since I only ran that one time last week, I fell behind on my schedule. It wasn’t a huge deal but it would’ve been nice to have been a little further along on my schedule. I endoded up running kinda slow because of my ankle brace trying to fall off at least 5 times. I wore it due to the fact I didn’t want to risk hurting myself. Sadly I realized a few days ago my brace was made for the right ankle, and I need it on my left. I’m estimating but I think I could’ve shave at least a minute off, if I didn’t have to fix my brace all those times. But it was fun to do and that’s what counts. 

The race itself was interesting because of how small it was. The few races I’ve been to have been bigger. I always needed to be there,  at a minimum, of an hour early to find parking and get to the starting line. It was the first time this race has ever been done. I showed up with my supportive hubby about an hour early. We ended up sitting in his car with the heat on. It was freezing in the morning. He stayed with me until I got lined up and then he had to leave for work. He’s always trying to be supportive and stay for my races, which makes him amazing. This race was all about raising money for missionaries around the globe and single moms in the city.

I also worked out today and managed to convince my hubby he wanted to walk. He did walk for about half the time I lifted. Today I worked my arms out and it included: curls, incline dumbbell bench press, dumbbell one arm row, triceps extension with dumbbells, and side lateral raise. It was the same as before where I did 10 reps for each set and I did 5 sets of every exercise. My hubby told me I wasn’t allowed to work out my legs because my ankle was bothering me. 

Apparently I’m in a Frozen theme tonight.

We’ve both decided it’s probably because I have a really tight achilles. He says it’s because I didn’t stretch before hand. However, I generally stretch after because my muscles are warm then. Either way I’ll be stretching it like crazy. I did use the foam roller today on top of stretching. It was painful after the race but I’ll be thankful tomorrow. 

It’s That Time of Year

Hey yall!

Today was the wonderful leg day for my workout. It was great but I’m sure I’ll be feeling it tomorrow. My legs were feeling a little like jello when I left the gym. I realize it’s a good thing but I have an 8 hour shift at work tomorrow. I did my weight lifting after I finished my classes.

Before my classes I ran because then I had that done and could study for my test. For my run today, I just did a 5k. I am not crazy enough to do am interval run with incline on leg day. Plus it’s good to mix up cardio. It was not my fastest one, but my goal was up do an easy run. Not pushing the speed was my challenge because I always want to beat a time.

Yesterday, my fiance let me put up the Christmas tree and tonight we get to decorate it. I’m so excited because Christmas is my favorite holiday ever.  Along those lines, I attempted to make paleo cookies with peanut butter, bananas, honey, and an egg. It turned into cookie bars and feels more like a fudge texture. The piece I ate out of the oven tasted good at least.
