Good pain vs bad

Hey yall, 

Today was leg day again. I took out my lunges though because my “What to Expect When Expecting” book said that it would be better to not do those while pregnant. It’s because I’m more clumsy then normal, and I am more prone to injury. Personally I didn’t research it that much because I despise walking lunges anyways. It just made a good excuse to not do them. However, I do think I did one of my exercises slightly wrong on accident. The right side of my leg is sore and not from working it out. I’ve learned to tell the different pains in my body, for the most part. Hopefully it just heals up nicely.

I had a mixture of cardio for today. My main cardio was walking on the treadmill. I had the treadmill at different angles, so it was like I was going up a hill. Sometimes it amazes me how walking at a step incline can be challenging. I did that for about 45 minutes. My other cardio was just out walking with the dogs. I also through the tennis ball for awhile. The dogs played keep away from each other. It was entertaining.

Hey, hey

Today I walked my 4 miles inside. Between the rain from last night and it raining during the day, I knew it wouldn’t work to walk outside. Walking inside is always fun with a TV set up in front of the treadmill. I walked the first and third mile at a one degree incline. My last mile I walked it at a half a degree incline. Since tomorrow is leg day and my legs are still a little sore, I figured I better not walk the whole time at an incline. It was interesting to walk during the time I did,  because both my parents were lifting weights at that time. It didn’t end up well for them and one came back later to finish. I mean it is a home gym in a room that isn’t finished in the basement. 


Today’s lifting consisted of biceps and triceps. I’m not really sure I’m going to be able to do much with my arms tomorrow, but we shall see. I did feel pretty good about being able to still use the 15 pound dumbbells for most of my lifts for biceps. My triceps just hated me at the end. My arms were jello and begging to be done. The exercises I did were: alternate hammer curls, alternate bicep curls, dumbbell incline curl, concentration curls, bench dips, standing triceps extension, triceps kickback, and alternate triceps extension. By the end of all that my arms were ready for a break.

I did walk around outside with the mutts today. In the morning I let them out for about an hour and walked them around. Granted, I didn’t walk that whole time. They had to get put away, since my parents had people coming over to put stuff on the attic. Anyways after that I let them out again and played with them for about an hour. Again, I walked them around for a little bit but they were more interested in chewing on bones. When we made dinner tonight, it was fun because my hubby was involved along with my mom and I. Sometimes it’s nice to make dinner as a family.

Day Two

Hey yall, 

Today I actually truly walked 4 miles on the treadmill. Technically it was a little more because this treadmill does a cool down, and I figured it couldn’t hurt anything. It went well even though my legs are sore from yesterdays workout. Since it was raining today, I thought I’d be safe and just walk inside. However, generally when I walk inside I get super bored because there’s nothing to look at. It helps I found an interesting show to watch. 

My lifting consisted of shoulders and chest today. Due to the fact I’m pregnant, it makes doing chest workouts a little more challenging. They suggest you don’t do exercises that require you to be flat on your back. A good chunk of chest workouts, at least with dumbbells, are flat on your back. So instead of being flat, I did them at inclines. My shoulders were sore by the end, which is good. The last rep I had for my chest exercise I could tell my muscles had just about had it. I felt so accomplished. My workout consisted of dumbbell shoulder press, dumbbell lateral raise, dumbbell shoulder shrug, dumbbell front raise, machine press, machine butterfly, dumbbell incline bench press, and dumbbell incline fly. They all basically were 3 sets with 10 reps.

Gotta Get Outta my Head

Hey yall, 

Today for my run my own plan said to run for 20 minutes with a run 3 minutes and walk 1 minute. However, in my head I was thinking that I wasn’t ready for that. It’s not that I haven’t done everything the plan has said to do, but I was just inside my own head. So I decided before I started my run that I could do it. I reminded myself that I’ve completed 5ks and a half marathon, so I could do it. Well that managed to work for me, and I accomplished it. I even ran the last 4 minutes without stopping. I felt pretty accomplished. 

Today I ended up doing two workouts because I didn’t do anything yesterday. Honestly, I think it was good for my body to have a day where it didn’t have to do much. I didn’t have to do work and I didn’t workout. Anyways I worked out my back first. It was awful. My arms were getting tired before anything else, but then my back started to feel it. My back was already tight, but I kept pushing forward. It ended up being a really good workout. I managed to increase my weight for the lat pull down and the the row. I felt pretty accomplished. 

After working out my back I did abs. For my side planks,  I think it’s time to increase my time. It’s starting to get a little easier and not as challenging. However, I didn’t today because of the time crunch. My abs still felt the pain and despised me. But hey I still got them worked and they will hopefully feel it tomorrow. It always feels nice to work those muscles. At least I think so. 

For my second workout I did triceps and biceps. My arms became jello by the end. My biceps were barely making all the reps by the time I got to my last set. I do believe that for the curls that want 21 reps I’ll be able to increase my weight on them. At least this is my goal for next time I workout my biceps. It may by that I only can do that for the first two sets but I’ll take it. At least that means I’m getting muscle and becoming just a little stronger. My triceps didn’t really appreciate being worked on but they still managed to make it to the end. My arms became jello and were useless but I did it.

Popping Knees

Hey  yall, 

I didn’t work out the past couple of days. Mainly because on Tuesday I got to spend some precious time with my hubby. I hardly get to see him anymore. I didn’t have to work nor did I have training. Instead we spent the morning running errands and playing with our puppies. Now I could have worked out once he left, but Tuesday was cardio day and I had run the day before. See I was being productive and getting ahead of the game. So it was like I didn’t really skip that workout. I also got my first pair of Lularoe leggings. I’m in love with them. They are seriously the softest leggings ever. Plus I went outside my comfort zone. Go me! Wednesday I had training for my job from 8am until 5pm. As soon as it was finished I had to go to work until 11pm, and then get up to go to training at 8am today. It was a long day. Needless to say I didn’t workout.

On top of yesterday being a crazy long day, my phone quit working on me. It’s not the first time, sadly,  but I still have two more months on this contract. It can be a challenge to get a hold of people when your phone craps out. Turns out my SIM card reader is going bad. I figure if it can last another two months then I’ll be in the clear. Made this interesting that’s for sure. 

Today I had training again, but we got done early. So I got a workout it. I wanted to do double,  since I missed yesterday’s. However, that did not happen. I started it too late and I was feeling tired by the end of it. Today was leg day. I’m not sure if it’s just me or other people have this issue too, but my knees just kept popping every time I did a squat. Sometimes I just walked slightly and they would pop some more. Mainly they just popped when I did squats. Today’s workout had me do 150 squats with 3 different variations. Yes,  I meant 150. Plus I did 50 calf raises and 50 stiff legged dumbbell lift. I didn’t do those all at once, but did 5 sets of 10 reps. 


Before I even lifted I ran. I was proud of this run, even though it was short. It was only 15 minutes, since I started over my training plan. Being the slacker I was the past few weeks, I didn’t want to push it. Anyways, I ran the first 5 minutes without stopping, walked two, ran two, walked one, and then ran the last 5 minutes. Many people will find that slow, lame, not that great but yall have to understand I’ve found my love of running again. I’ve finely accepted I can’t run long distance anymore unless I work up to it. I’m proud of me and that’s what counts . 

Cardio Monday

Hey yall! 

Today my whole family went to the trail near my apartment and we all did some sort of cardio outside. My husband just walked our youngest dog. He enjoyed himself, which is probably because I wasn’t forcing him to run. On top of that, my husband got a walk in before he played golf. My dad did his interval training outside. It was his first time doing it outside, and I’m pretty certain he still prefers inside. I can’t blame him, sometimes it’s way better to do it inside. 

My mom and I ran together, along with my dog. She’s great at one thing and that is pushing me to go further. Today we went almost six miles, and I’ve basically gone four max recently. Plus those four miles were walking with my husband, and no running. She has a way of making you realize you can actually go further than you believe. There were parts that I listened to my own head instead of her encouraging words. However, the parts I listened to her were the times I realized I could do it, if I would get out of my own head.

Today there was no lifting, which might have been a good thing. I enjoyed some quality time with my parents and a little with my hubby. Tomorrow, however, I’ll have to make up for today’s skipping of the weights. It was worth it though. 

Self-Worth

Hey yall! 

Sorry it has been awhile since I posted. I had training for my new job these past few days. It was a lot of fun, and the guy teaching it managed to not make it boring. Everyone who works at my job has ti be certified in MANDT, which is a class on building relationships (a little bit of how to restrain clients in case they are going to hurt someone or themselves). 


My past two workouts were over legs, shoulders, chest, abs, and triceps. It kinda stinks sometimes only working out at the apartment gym, because it lacks a lot of equipment. For instance, this week my reps are between six and eight. However, I use the fifteen pound dumbbell for most of the exercises, and I generally do about twelve reps. The next set of dumbbells are the thirty pounds. I like to pretend I’m that strong, but I ain’t. There is no way I can bench two thirty pound dumbbells. Plus I’m supposed to be using a barbell, which would be easier because of the grips this program has me use. While I can manage without the barbell, I need the twenty and twenty five pound dumbbells. One of these days my husband and I will join a country club, so he can play golf and I can use the gym.

Tonight my husband and I walked two miles with our puppies. They greatly enjoyed themselves and were ready for bed. My pup apparently does not like children. I have no idea why not, but she is something else.

Anyways to my title. It just seems that recently the people I’ve talked to feel like they ain’t worth much. It seems sad that people are feeling like they ain’t worth much because of how they get treated. I wish everyone would know they are loved by someone, somewhere. For me, I work out and run. Everyone has to find their own thing that helps when life seems to beat up on them. While it can be hard to face life’s curveball, it helps when there is support around them. Everyone should feel like they are worth something and that they always will. Anyways my little two cents. I would like to clarify that I don’t feel this way, but just the people I’ve been talking to. 

New Years Resolution

Hey y’all,

For those that have been following, I disappeared for a long while. I could give you all the excuses in the world. I did manage to workout, even though I never blogged about it. It was nice to take some time off and figure things out.

The Excuses (yes, I realize there are no good ones):

  • newlywed
  • going to move to Wheaton for school but things fell through
  • had to find a new place to live, but in the same city I currently live in
  • trying to figure out school
  • illnesses within the family and me personally
  • LIFE

However, I’m back at it. I really did workout but not to the intensity I wish I would have. A little over two weeks ago I started an intense workout from bodybuilding.com. I seriously love that website, it gives me tips and tricks and replacement exercises if my gym does not have the equipment. It is the best! Plus it gives you the ability to read other people’s experiences and what worked for them. Along with that you can buy to help your workout. Anyways enough about bodyduilding.com.

The workout has me going for four days of lifting and cardio and the other days are active rest. I did end up taking last week off due to a personal injury that hindered my mobility a great deal. While it sucked to take last week off from running and lifting, it was much needed and now I feel energized and ready to go. I still can not go as far as I wish I could on running because of the injury, but I will be there by the end of the week for sure (that would be tomorrow I guesss). The workout I managed to find on bodybuilding.com (go figure). It is intense but oh so rewarding.

Today was shoulders and triceps, which are my two weakest muscle groups. They have always been my weakest, which is probably because I do not use them that often. It was awful, and I coould barely move my arms at the end. While it was a struggle ot make a protein shake, it was worth it at the same time. The workout had me do 7 different workouts with a variety of different exercises. I always feel crazy week when I have to work my triceps and shoulders and get crazy self-conscious. Oh well, everyone has to start somewhere I suppose. On the plus side I look stylin’ in my new running shoes when I workout.

I got probably way more excited then I should have when I got these, but my other shoes were over a year old. Even a novice like me knows that is way to long to have a decent pair of running shoes, especially since I trained and ran a half marathon in them. The guy was crazy friendly and that place will always have my husband and mine’s business. He managed to talk me into two new pair of running socks, which I was informed I would love. They are made to work well on nature trails and pavement, since where I run is both. I am also hoping to run another half-marathon next year and maybe a full if I can convince my husband it is necessary. He is pretty supportive with all my running craziness thankfully. He even works out with me, which is fabulous because it gives us time in the morning together. We workout before work at 6am…never in my life did I think that I could do that or him. Now I prefer it over the afternoon with the exception of running. Personally I would like that later in the afternoon when it is still cool out but the sun is out so I can enjoy nature.

Anyways my husband and I are back on track to working out consistently. It feels good to be back at it, especially with someone I love dearly. I am crazy excited for the rest of this year and what it holds. We are just starting the typical new year’s resolution everyone does every year early. Well…that’s what we are telling ourselves anyways.

 

Testing Tuesday

Hey yall!

Today my husband and I started our new weight lifting program. We could not on monday because I went from work straight to school and then the gym was closed. It technically is a workout that is twice a day, but we did it all at once.

Today was back, biceps, and abs. It was crazy intense. Everything was only three sets but two of those sets were drop sets. I’m going to be sore tomorrow I have no doubt. I managed to lose some of my calluses with the not being consistent for working out. So my hands hurt and will be getting calluses back. My biceps are like jello at the end of my workout.

But most of all I am proud of my hubby for pushing himself. He has tried for awhile to lose weight and get healthy. However, he’s never been consistent and gets discouraged easily. I’m so proud of him though because he pushed himself and went at it. The only time he said no was when he hit failure, which was acceptable. He also said he enjoyed doing the same workout as me, which is probably because we can push each other.

I’m Alive

Hey yall!

I worked out yesterday and today. I promise! I just haven’t had time to blog with the crazy work schedule. Holiday hours are not any fun.

Anyways, yesterday I did intervals for twenty five minutes. Those are getting easier, which is promising. It was back day as well. However, my body building app was not cooperative and neither was the website. I was not very happy with that but after uninstalling it and reinstalling it, it has worked just fine. I just looked up my workout plan, since I knew what day I was on.

Today was chest and abs. I did not run because I had my graduate final and found studying to be more important. It went really well and I surprised myself with my increase on weights. I’m pumped with that for sure.

Tonight my fiance forced me to open my wedding present. He’s not known for patience. I’m so excited and happy with it. It’s a Garmin Vivoactive! I’ve never really wanted anything fancy like that and have always thought it was just what the crazy fitness people used. Turns out I’m one of those people now! I don’t care, it’ll make running and working out easier. It looks odd color in the photo but it’s black.

My fiance opened his as well and he got a pair of cowboy boots. I’m slowly converting him.
