So yesterday I ran another 5k that was about the same pace/time frame as on Tuesday. I felt pretty accomplished about that. At first I thought it wouldn’t go as well but hey I’ll take it. It was really pretty so I had to take a picture.
Today I went for my long run because I won’t have time tomorrow. It went about as well as could be expected. I was hoping for a little better but considering how long it has been, since I’ve gone 5 miles… It also got much warmer than I anticipated, so I was over dressed. However, I did use my new running belt, which has water bottles. It was helpful but sometimes I thought it made my mouth feel more dry. It could be because the water got warm or I’m over thinking it.
Anyways my run was at a 10 minute pace, which makes sense. Part of my other issue was that my legs were starting to feel it towards the end, which could be because of the heat or all the workouts from earlier or just a combo. Since I ran further I got to see more of the trail, it went my a grill. That’s just torture on so many levels. The place provided some shade over the sidewalk people ran on but still it is food on a bike trail. Another issue I had was my hips bothering me like crazy. Generally I ignore pain in my hips (I broke them freshman year of high school) but it didn’t leave. It could be because of the stair master, which works your hip flexors. On the plus side my pup managed to last the whole 5 miles, and I couldn’t tell she was worn out until the cool down walk.
After running and becoming completely exhausted, I went to the gym to work out. Yeah… Not sure what’s wrong with me. Today was back and biceps. My arms are still sore and weak from the workouts earlier in the week. Needless to say it was an interesting workout. But hey I finished and I still pushed myself.
Once I finished all that crazy working out, we had some friends come over. It’s so satisfying to just hang out and talk with people over food. Even if they can only stay just for dinner, it’s refreshing to just talk to friends about struggles in life. I’m forever thankful for all the ones I’ve made.
Well today was quite a day. I started my morning off with a shoulder workout. You never realize how weak shoulders are until you have a whole day for working them. I don’t know if I just ignore those muscles or what. Although, I saw a guy who looked pretty fit and lean (like you could see each individual muscle on his arms), and he was doing a similar workout with weight I would use. Granted I don’t know if his muscles were already sore or he purposely did light weight. It doesn’t really matter, it made me feel a little better about my weak shoulders.
All by myself in the weight room
I did start my my workout with a five minute warm up to get my blood flowing. I think it helps, especially because I’m not lose in the morning. My muscles are tight and still haven’t woken up. After my workout I did the stair master got twenty five minutes. I was consistent and did the same level for the whole thing. Except there was a two minute window when I increased it by three levels. Yea… I’m not sure what possessed me to do that. However, I finished and felt accomplished. Once I got off my legs were wobbly, which is always fun when going downstairs.
After going to work, which did mean being on my feet the whole time, I decided to go for a run. I know I need to run consistently in order to be ready for the race. So I took a little break and then decided it was time to go again. Once I started walking on the trail, I could feel the tiredness in my legs. In order to not kill them and give them a break I decided to only go 2 miles. I could feel it really when I started running. My dog was wound like crazy. I don’t know if it had something to do with the fact she got to sleep before we went or what.
I did give her a water break towards the middle of the run. It is important to me to never push my dog more than she can handle because that’s not fair. Anyways she splashed herself and then startled herself. Of course she made it worse by jumping around in order to get out. It was pretty entertaining. The second time I think she was starting to learn how to play in the water.
Back to my run. I was going and going and eventually realized I was almost at a mile and a half and had yet to turn around. So I decided to just go the three miles and hope I didn’t kill myself. In the beginning I made sure to watch my pace and not go too fast too soon. Somehow I managed to make it all work out and go my 3.1 miles at a pace I’m crazy happy with. It’s been a long time, since I’ve run this quick and felt good. Eventually, after a little over a mile I quite feeling the exhaustion in my legs and felt like I was flying. Every mile I got a little faster with my third mile being my fastest, which is crazy! It may not be as fast as a lot of people but I’d be happy with this pace for a 50k.
I decided that my speed might have something to do with my new sunglasses. They were cheap thanks to coupons and discounts. I realize that probably has nothing to do with it but it makes me feel better. Along with a new headband to run in.
I get her picture at prefect times
Just a little FYI I did workout last week but it got crazy busy for me to blog. Sorry, but I have no desire to stay up late to blog. I really need my sleep. Anyways I went to a concert that was so much fun. It was a Cole Swindell concert. I figured I’d see him before it cost an arm and a leg to see him in concert.
Over the weekend I had the chance to go ride a horse. I realize this blog makes me seem like a runner and that’s it. However, I’m an equestrian at heart. It’s just an expensive sport (worse than running, who knew) that l can’t do all the time. One reason is because my home barn is located in my home state, and I haven’t found a barn here. I haven’t tried real hard to find one because it is expensive. Anyways needless to say my legs were not crazy sore. My inner thighs were a little sore and the inside of my knee. The inside of my knee was sore because of bruising from holding on to the saddle.
Today I went for great run. I was a little nervous at first because I had taken three days off and didn’t do my long run. But it went pretty well. I’m the beginning I was feeling like I could fly and went out a little too fast for to long. My first mile felt fantastic needless to say. I barely walked and only stopped when my poor pup needed to go. She tries so hard to not stop and go but it’s cruel to make a dog run and go to the bathroom. When getting into my second mile it was a little slower but probably a little too fast still. It felt good though, however, I was starting to really feel the humidity. My skin was getting gross but I kept on going. Looking at my last mile I shake my head. It was the worse mile out of all of them. Even during my training for the half last year my third mile was the worst. But once I get past that mile I start “leveling” out and becoming consistent. One of these days I will hopefully figure it out. I know my first mile was fast because I just felt amazing but I have to learn to hold that back and be consistent.
My lifting was for chest and triceps. It was crazy intense and my arms/chest have become jello. I was trying to open my ground turkey with that easy peal, and it was a challenge. Getting plates down made my arms shake, so I think it was a good lifting day. While I’m sure I’ll feel the pain tomorrow, I’m glad I can feel the jello now. It means I did well. I almost didn’t go because I still wish my husband would join me, but I sucked it up and went
I did not really do any cardio today. Other than my job (I’m on my feet the whole time walking) and a quick 5 minute warm up before I lifted. It is leg day so I thought I wouldn’t push it. Especially since I woke up with my legs slightly sore. I think part of it is I ran my run and walked a little and then walked almost three miles with my husband.
Today was leg day, in case you couldn’t tell. I started a new workout program, since my husband isn’t lifting with me anymore. It was a gruesome workout. The program had about six different workouts with 5-7 sets of 12-15 reps. So you all can now understand my pain. It felt good though.
I think another reason it was good to take today off was to help my knee muscles. I’m slowly (so, so, so slowly) increasing my mileage. My knee had a little pain yesterday but went away. Then while I was lifting there was a little pain in my thigh on a tendon. My husband thinks the tendons just need to build their strength back up, which is probably very true.
Last week I did run and continue to workout. I just had received some crazy exciting news that had me busy from blogging. However, I’m back now.
Today I ran about 3.5 miles. The first two and a half were together and then I walked for about half a mile. The last mile was full of hills. It was great… I’m just kidding. It actually wasn’t that bad and I did not think I was dying. Props to that. I wore my dog out enough she walked next to me. It was amazing.
My husband decided he wanted to walk tonight. So later on we walked for almost 3 miles. I’m not sure how accurate that is but I did use my Garmin Vivoactive so I’m sure it is.
He also used to be my workout partner. Today he informed me that he doesn’t feel comfortable lifting. I guess his joints were hurting, which is probably because we were doing an intense workout. It wasn’t really meant for beginning lifters. But either way he’s done lifting with me. However, he does want to walk and eventually run a mile. Maybe he’ll change his mind. Maybe. It definitely saddens me because it was helpful having that person there to push me.
I guess I’ll figure out a new way. It’s hard for me to keep workout partners. Maybe it’s because I’m trying to get everyone in the gym and they see me not struggling as hard as them. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just a terrible gym partner. I would have hoped my husband would have told me that. Here’s to hoping he will join me soon and I don’t have to do this alone… Again (first time was my choice).
I’m just going to start off by saying we didn’t go to the gym because I tried for a solid 5 minutes to get my husband up. He wasn’t budging. I tried and tried and he kept snoring away. So I was like well we can go in the evening. I despise going in the evening like crazy. He does better then, but I can make sure we go if we do it in the morning. Also we eat dinner really late if we go in the evening. Anyways up dragging his butt in there tomorrow.
However, I did go for a run. The trail splits going into two different directions. One side has some serious hills and the other is more level but curvy. So I decided to go the side with hills today because it’s necessary. In my mind I was thinking I can run the same speed as when I run when it is flat. I’m not sure why I was thinking that because it clearly is not true. I’m sure someday way down the road I can make it. Anyways that put me down a little but I kept trekking along.
So I finished my two tiny miles and was like well let’s go exploring. There is this little nature trail that breaks off and I just figured I would walk down it. I always try to walk a decent amount into a trail I haven’t been on before, so I don’t have any surprises while I’m running. It was a unique little trail that was only about a quarter mile long. At least that’s all the further I went because I got to a railroad bridge and it looked like the trail ended. It was very pretty and hopefully next time I can go further of find another one that goes longer.
Once I finished walking that trail I was like well let’s go another half. I definitely ended up going a mile. However, people were starting to show up and many had bikes. Pretty much every single one that was in a group found it necessary to take up the whole trail. I was like hello I’m right here and have the right to run on the pavement as well. One group almost forced me off the pavement and into the river. Another guy came up behind me but didn’t tell me and I almost punched him. I get violent when startled I guess. Thankfully my hands were busy paying attention to my pup, who gets distracted easily. Anyways I get your in a bike but that doesn’t make you better. I also have a bike but that doesn’t mean I’m always on it. I don’t know if any of yall ever have bicycle issues or not. It just seemed really bad today. But at least I ran an extra mile and enjoyed some sun.
So it wasn’t really 75 degrees it was warmer! Originally it was supposed only be 72 degrees but I’ll take anything at this point. Needless to say it was warm out and gorgeous. I ran 2.5 miles, which seems so small in comparison to what I have to get to. One major factor is I ran in shorts, since it was so much warmer today than normal. Plus there is barely any wind circulation on part of that trail. So under my shorts I wear compression shorts because I have thunder thighs and the chaff bad if I don’t. However, I’m having issues finding ones that don’t roll. I kept stopping to fix them because it bothers me and they make running shorts so short. If anyone has any ideas please share!
I also saw quite a few runners out there and they varied in how “good” of a runner they were. I guess a better way would be by experience. You know those people you see running and just know that they have years of running under their belt. Anyways it was a little intimidating seeing as I was just running along with my pup. She did seem to do much better today in the beginning, so I think she’s learning. It was fun to watch all the runners, even though I was intimated by them. Mainly because I’m not where I used to be, and I know I just need to focus on the now.
My husband and I were going to go to the gym but he decided to stay up and watch the Royals. I don’t care about baseball but I know it’s important to him. However, I asked if we were still going (before I fell asleep waiting on him to return) and he said yes. Needless to say that didn’t happen because he got back late. So today was a rest day from weights I guess. I think I’m going to step up cardio and half an hour of the stair master plus my running. I need to shock my body like crazy.
Today was leg day! I was so excited… I’m completely kidding. I did want to make sure to do leg day because I feel like I have lost some of my muscles in my legs. One main reason is I can’t see the definition of my leg muscles anymore, and I was very proud that you could see them. Even though there was only 4 different exercises, it was brutel. I mean if it’s 4 sets with the last 2 being drop sets, anyone would feel it. Your max reps were ten and then the drop sets were ten and then twenty.
I also made up the workout from yesterday, which was chest. It would have been very helpful it I had my husband because I did not really know any of the exercises. So in turn I did things I did know how to do. I still did something at least, even if I was clueless.
Today I was supposed to run my long run. However, right after I did legs/chest I turned around and went straight to work. It was great fun being on my legs for 6 straight hours after that. So my husband and I went out to the trail in order for me to get my long run in. Well my pup started getting tired about 2ish miles. Originally I was going to run 4 but I felt like that would be pushing it and that I wasn’t ready. It could have just been me thinking to much or I really wasn’t ready. I tend to over think these things. So I ended up only going 2.25 miles and then walked with my husband. It was worth it because we hardly get to walk together anymore.
I also have started using my husband’s foam roller. I am quite positive I use it more than him and it was his gift. Anyways it is fantastic! It makes me want to cry when I’m using it but the benefits are awesome. I’m still sore but not near as bad as I would be.
Also if anyone has any ideas on how to get your dog to not pull every time she sees an animal, that would be great. Generally she’s not so bad but there are times it gets bad. Along with that she will pull and try to go full speed ahead as soon as we start running. Obviously that’s not a great idea because we need to last. She loves to run, which is why I want to keep taking her but she is starting to give me bruises because of the leash being yanked (I also just bruise easily). Thanks. 🙂
Today I only ran again because my husband and I were going to go to the gym after he got off work. However, he got home about an hour later than normal, so that plan did not work. He claims he does his workouts best in the afternoon/evening. I think it’s just because he isn’t used to getting up early. Anyways we are both going tomorrow at different times. It kinda sucks that we won’t be together but at least we both go. So I ran my two miles in 19 minutes flat! I realize that’s not super fast but considering I’m still trying to get back to it… After I finished the 2 miles I decided to go to the end, which added another half a mile. I didn’t try for that half mile on time but it was kinda like a cool down. My real cool down was a nice 2 mile walk where I ran up the hills but walked everything else. I’m crazy thankful for my husband who sends me little texts that help keep me going.
Now before my pup and I ever got started with our run, some guy decided he needed to pet her. One major thing about my dog: she is not a fan of males. We did some research and apparently it is the terrior in her. Along with the she is mixed with German Shepherd. Many German Shepherd dogs are really cautious of other people and remain super loyal to the owner. When my husband and I first got her she had never really been socialized (we adopted her), but she had become much better. Not only were we on a bridge she did not really like, but the guy came straight at her with his hand out. I kept trying to back her away but he kept coming at us. Eventually, she raised her hackles at him and he then seemed to become more determined. He did get her but at one point and finally left us alone. It was weird and not appreciated.
I’m sure your wondering why I would say “too hot,” if spring has come. When spring comes, so does amazing weather. I did go run outside today for 2 miles. However, when I left there was a really cold wind that I thought I would need a light long sleeve shirt for. I was incorrect. Very, very incorrect. Apparently because of where the trail is located the wind only touched certain areas on it. So the sun was shining and I was making my body work plus I had long sleeves that are black. Needless to say I got to hot while running but that’s OK. It was a decent run with stops for crazy deer that are out and a dog who had to go. She’s so cute and tries hard to hold it but when you gotta go, you just gotta go. I wore her out since it was warm on the trail and increased the mileage. I did not lift because of work and school, which left me no time if I wanted to get some more reading done. But I can go Saturday before work thankfully.
